Mormons Like Seven- Layer Dip

The Mormon religion has put forward a core body of beliefs that Mormons call the Articles of Faith. The Articles of Faith summarize the basic tenants of the church's teachings. In contrast, Mormon culture has never been reduced to its essence. However, if Mormons were to adopt a cultural articles of faith, I would not be surprised at all to see this among the list:

We believe that the first layers and ingredients of the Dip are: first, refried beans; second, cheese; third, chopped tomatoes; fourth, the gift of sour cream; fifth, olives; sixth, salsa; seventh, guacamole--that is, if you have it.

Now this just has to be put to music and taught to primary children in sign language.

* Note that the original post has been altered. Originally, I included "meat with taco seasoning" and not "refried beans" as the first ingredient in seven-layer dip. Several commenters protested that meat was not included in seven-layer dip.
One commenter was indeed outraged and went so far to assert that the recipe I originally included must have been given to me by a "jack Mormon." Given this extreme response, I conducted an online poll. Of the respondents, 88% of people asserted that refried beans and not meat was part of seven-layer dip. The recipe included was altered to reflect that Mormons like refried beans in seven-layer dip and not meat.

But doesn't the recipe call for refried beans not meat with taco seasoning? or is that considered blasphemous ;)

Guacamole, as far as it is translated (i.e. prepared) correctly.

Doesthatmakesense,

I have to say, even though I contradict myself, that seven layer dip generally does have beans, not meat. This just goes to show you why it is so important to get things written down.

You're making me hungry!

Let's poll this question:
"Which chips go BEST with Seven-layer Dip?"

I believe Fritos Scoops. Amen?

Of course it all tastes best with a big, fat, ice-cold........COKE!

I would really like to bear my testimony about this truth. Yumm-o! (Also, I put the taco seasoning in my sour cream layer.)

Brig, I'm still laughing. Loved this one! I'm going to introduce it in Primary during opening exercises this Sunday.

I put beans instead of meat because they are way cheaper and easier!

Now I'm hungry for 7-layer dip.
Maybe a 7-layer burrito will work.

I don't ever remember having a layered bean dip made with seasoned ground beef... it's always been with beans.

Here in Hawaii, we had a local politician send out a campaign letter/cookbook that had a recipe for layered bean dip, but he titled it "guacamole". One of the layers he recommended was avocado dip. That was enough to make me vote for his opponent.

My mother-in-law swears (but not really) by the refried bean flakes from the cannery. They are easily reconstituted, and are, apparently, yummy. I will ask her if she's ever made The 7 Layer Dip with them.

You are on drugs. Meat in seven layer dip? It is beans. Also, seven layer dip does not have salsa in it either. You missed green onions. A bunch of jack Mormons must have given you this recipe.

Oh you have it all wrong. The layered dish is most definitely jello based with cool whip, canned fruit, possibly some vegetables, and surely marshmallows. Haven't you ever looked at a Relief Society cookbook? Like 10 pages just of jello salad recipe! Sadly, I have no testimony of Jello Salad. Does that make me simply LDS and not Mormon, too?

Multiple layers of anything sounds good to me... Ever tried the layer salad? YUMMMMMY!! Lettuce, green pepper, celery, frozen peas, purple onion, MAYO of course, cheese, olives, bacon and marinated tomatos! (extra 3 toppings just for good measure)
